Let me tell you what I know, Karen.
For this collaboration, I walked in the footsteps of women who descended into the dark and came back changed. The only light down there is the one you carry, but you return with something the daylight never taught you.
Ishtar, Persephone, Medusa. I found pieces of myself in each — the way you catch your own face in old mercury glass, half there,
half shadow.
Women haven't always been afraid of the dark. The Victorians kept hair of the dead in their lockets and held séances by candlelight — the most proper women alive, quietly keeping company with what they were told to fear. A small rebellion, worn on the skin.
Somewhere in the making of this, I understood what they knew.
Sit in the dark long enough and your eyes adjust, and what frightened you turns out to have been yours all along.
Now I’m inviting you. Ready to begin your descent?
