Hi Karen,
Being on set for our Mother’s Day shoot recently, I overheard so many stories of lifelong connection, personal growth, and fierce devotion. Maybe that’s why I’ve been thinking about what it means to be a mother. It goes way beyond what’s biological. We’ve all been “mothered” by women in our community who had no family connection to us, and they’ve shaped our lives and personalities in ways that are impossible to count.
I’ve long believed that every woman is a Goddess, and the reality is, most of us are also mothers, even if we don’t have offspring of our own. This Mother’s Day, I wanted to recognize the mothers in our lives who may not see themselves celebrated as such. The sisters, the neighbors, the lifelong friends and parents-of-friends who make up our support systems, model their strength, and raise us to be strong.
If that sounds like you, I want you to know: this day is for you, too.
We see you. And we’re better for knowing you.
Happy Mother’s Day.
Jill Johnson
